The online contest has come to an exciting conclusion! With over 1,000 votes, your enthusiasm and support have made a difference in highlighting inspiring initiatives for the protection of our waters. 🌊
This contest was a great opportunity to showcase the efforts of students and schools dedicated to preserving our oceans, seas, and rivers. Through their creativity, innovation, and commitment, these young actors of change have demonstrated that every action counts in protecting our blue planet.
After two weeks of voting, we are delighted to announce the three projects that have casted the most support:
🥇 We Wasted the World’s Water – Lale Kemal Kılıç Secondary School – Türkiye
This project aimed to raise awareness about water conservation and reducing consumption. Students participated in beach cleanups, exhibitions, and seminars on recycling to highlight environmental pollution. A waste oil collection campaign led to the recycling of 300 liters of waste oil into biodiesel, contributing to the circular economy. Additionally, tree planting activities helped expand green areas and strengthened students’ connection with nature.

🥈 Minimising Pollution in Adriatic Dalmatia – Elementary school Šime Budinić – Croatia

This project educated students on marine pollution, ocean acidification, and microplastics while fostering hands-on environmental action. Through beach cleanups, marine research activities, and field visits, students collected over one ton of waste, analyzed seawater samples, and used underwater drones to document pollution. Also, creative initiatives, including exhibitions and educational videos, helped raise public awareness.
🥉 Waste Awareness – Volunteer Effects – Hatay Fen Lisesi – Türkiye
Through field trips, beach cleanups, workshops, and exhibitions, the WAVE project aimed to create a more sustainable school while fostering ocean literacy among students. By building bridges between the school and ocean professionals, they collaborated to find solutions to raise environmental awareness. Students also calculated their water footprint to measure their personal impact, allowing them to become even more conscious of the environmental challenges that affect them directly.
