Blue Schools encourage student engagement with ocean and freshwater topics, nurturing a sense of responsibility.

BlueLightS empowers European children and youth to enhance resilience and sustainability in rivers and seas through collaborative projects in schools, fostering dialogue between education communities, and piloting innovative changes in educational systems. The initiative aligns with the EU’s goal of restoring oceans and waters by 2030, serving as a crucial component for its success.

Plastic Pirates – Go Europe! is one of the largest citizen science projects in which students and young adults across Europe are empowered to become scientists themselves. In schools classes or youth group, participants venture to rivers and coasts to collect scientific data about macro- and micro-plastic pollution in Europe’s waterways.

The initiative is part of the EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters and the European Research Area (ERA) policy agenda action 14 “Bringing citizens closer to science”.
