First Water Literacy Action Center in Türkiye
The Water Literacy Action Center has been established at Yıldız Technical University, the first unit of its kind in Türkiye!
In December 2024, Yıldız Technical University (YTU) has established the Water Literacy Action Center in Istanbul. This new Center aims to raise awareness of the importance of water and ocean literacy, to educate individuals and communities on the sustainable use of water resources, and to contribute to the conservation of aquatic ecosystems.
This activity is part of the Work Package 4 (Interact and Maximize Impact) of the SHORE project, and the Center will continue to support the education of students and teachers on water and ocean-related topics long after the SHORE project itself has ended.
This Center is intended to be a pilot unit for universities across Türkiye. In coordination with the Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Türkiye, YTU aims to implement similar centers in other universities across the country.
Such centers are essential to promote ocean literacy and empower individuals and communities to take action to protect aquatic ecosystems!
