The European Blue Schools toward the ambitious target of UNESCO about ocean literacy in the school curricula:

A dialogue promoted by the ProBleu, SHORE and BlueLightS Consortia Coalition under the EU Ocean Mission toward the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) goal

As part of the UNESCO Ocean Decade Conference, the SHORE, ProBlue and BlueLightS projects, in collaboration with EMSEA, are spearheading a landmark event to embed ocean literacy within the European school curriculum by 2025. This initiative represents a significant stride towards meeting the objectives of the Ocean Decade, unifying educational institutions across Europe in a shared mission.

The event “The European Blue Schools: Aiming for UNESCO’s Ambitious Ocean Literacy Goals in School Curricula” is scheduled for 8 April, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm (CEST), at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) auditorium and will also be available online. Admission is free, and while registration for the Ocean Decade event is not required, attendees must register to attend this event by Friday, 5 April at 1pm (CEST). Online participants should fill in this form.

Ocean literacy is essential to foster a new generation that understands and appreciates the intricate relationship between humanity and the ocean and commits to its protection. Integrated with the European Blue Schools initiative, this event is poised to play a crucial role in the global movement towards sustainable marine education.

Attendees will have the chance to hear from distinguished project coordinators about the collaborative efforts among EU Mission’s sister projects, delve into the progress and hurdles faced by European Blue Schools, and discuss practical strategies for engaging educational stakeholders in this mission.

This satellite event is a unique opportunity for educators, environmentalists, and all stakeholders to rally behind a vital cause and contribute to the ambitious goals of the UNESCO Ocean Decade.

Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future, capped off with a networking session to connect with like-minded people. Join us on 8 April in Barcelona!
